Sportsbook — Sportsbook

A sportsbook is the betting platform where players wager on sports outcomes — odds, markets, bet slips and settlement — and modern sportsbooks are increasingly sold as APIs attached to an existing casino stack.

What a sportsbook is

A sportsbook is the part of a betting platform that handles sports wagering: markets (match winner, totals, handicaps, player props), odds, the bet slip, bet acceptance, risk management and settlement. "Book" comes from the bookmaker's book of liabilities — the set of accepted bets and the odds they were taken at.

The core loop: the sportsbook prices an event, players place bets against those prices, the event resolves, and each bet either pays out or not. The operator's margin is the overround (vig) — the gap between the implied probabilities of all outcomes and 100%.

How sportsbook odds work

Odds are the price of an outcome, and they encode probability plus margin. In decimal format (standard across most of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America):

  • Odds 2.00 → implied probability 1/2.00 = 50%. A ৳100 bet returns ৳200 (৳100 stake + ৳100 profit) if it wins.
  • Odds 1.50 → implied probability ≈ 66.7%. A ৳100 bet returns ৳150.
  • The book sets every outcome's implied probability slightly higher than its true chance; the sum across a market exceeds 100%, and that excess is the margin.
  • Because books can be beaten on price, serious sportsbooks buy feeds from odds suppliers (Betradar/Sportradar, BetGenius and similar) and then manage their own risk — liability per outcome, per event, per player.

Ways to get a sportsbook

For casino-first operators, the API model has one decisive advantage: the sportsbook shares the same player wallet as the casino. A player deposits once and can bet on cricket, then spin slots, without a second balance — which materially changes deposit behaviour and lifetime value.

  • White-label sportsbook: a full branded platform — front end, wallet, risk tools — rented monthly. Fastest to launch, least control, highest recurring cost.
  • Turnkey platform licence: you run the vendor's platform under your brand with more customisation and a longer commitment.
  • Sportsbook API: the odds feed, markets and settlement arrive as API calls into your own front end and wallet. Most control, most engineering, and the model that fits operators who already have a casino product.

Sportsbook + casino on one API

GamingAPI exposes sportsbook alongside slots, live casino and crash titles under one contract and one wallet: the player's balance is a single number the operator owns, and every vertical debits and credits it through the same signed callback mechanism. Cricket — the dominant vertical in South Asia — rides the same integration, so the operator's engineering cost of adding sports is close to zero beyond market configuration.
